You are currently feeling a little uneasy about your electronic security provider. Maybe they don’t answer when you call. They may be really bad at returning a phone call. Or maybe you never see or hear from them unless they are collecting a payment. This has driven you to consider switching your electronic security provider.

Many electronic security providers offer a free consultation to potential new clients. This is a great opportunity for you to meet the team you will be working with and understand, in-depth, who they are, what they do and what they offer.

The largest portion of the consultation should be dedicated to just that, consulting. A representative from the company that you are considering should visit your institution and do a walk through with you. The following is a list of things that the representative should analyze and look at:

  • All entrances and exits
  • Current and future video surveillance placements
  • The security equipment control room
  • Access control
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Emergency lights
  • Exit signs
  • DVR

After the walk-through, the representative should sit down with you and go over what he saw, good and bad. From there he/she should present to you what the company can offer that is better than what you are receiving.

Choosing to switch providers is a big step, be sure to take the time to think it over, request referrals, read reviews, explore their website, look at the numbers, etc.

If you like what you see and hear, make that switch with the safety of your institution in mind.
