The Threat: Inefficient Surveillance
In years past, one shoreline community has patrolled its busy beachfront and boardwalk with police officers on bikes. Due to the large area to be covered, it was not practical to have proper coverage with just a physical presence.
So this local community turned to ISG to assist with a video solution.
ISG designed and assisted with the engineering of a city-wide, wireless network for the broadcast and recording of digital video along more than three miles of beachfront. This secure system includes real-time viewing of the entire area—including boardwalks, skate parks, a convention center, and public space. The live viewing actually takes place on a series of high-resolution color LCD displays away from the beachfront area, in the city’s Emergency 911 center. Not only can city security officials view situations or incidents as they happen and respond accordingly with police and emergency medical assistance, but they can also review recorded or archived video.
Due to the implementation of the video surveillance system, the city has reduced security expenditures and re-deployed of police resources to other vital areas of the city. Plus, a significant reduction in crime and vandalism along this shoreline town has been realized.
